Bradford Anticon medium duty is a foil faced glasswool blanket for metal roofs, with a tougher facing than light duty. It goes over the purlins or battens and handles thermal performance, condensation control and roof noise in the one layer.

When medium duty is the right pick

The glasswool is the same in all three grades. Only the foil facing changes. Light duty is enough on a normal residential roof where nothing touches the blanket after it is laid. Medium duty is the one to reach for when the blanket takes real handling on site, gets dragged over mesh, or sits exposed for a while before the sheeting goes on. Heavy duty is for the rougher end of that again.

Which R-value

Eight options, from R1.3 at 60 mm up to R4.2 at 175 mm, which is the thickest blanket in the Anticon range. The number on the roll is the material R-value of the blanket on its own. What the roof ends up with depends on whether the blanket recovers full thickness between the sheet and the purlin, so a spacer often matters more than stepping up a grade. Roofing blanket R-values covers that in detail.

Condensation

A metal roof that drips on a clear morning is sweating, not leaking. The blanket and its foil face hold warm inside air away from the cold underside of the sheet. Condensation in metal roofs explains the mechanism and the NCC 2022 requirements.

Ordering

Sold by the roll, 1200 mm wide. A 15 m roll at 60 mm covers 18 m², while a 6 m roll at 175 mm covers 7.2 m². Measure the roof area, divide by the roll coverage and allow for laps and waste. How much insulation do I need has a worked example.

Suitable for BAL 12.5 through to Flame Zone on metal roofs when installed to specification. Sizes, coverage and CSR product codes are in the table below, and Metal roof insulation in Australia shows where the blanket sits against mesh, spacers and sheeting.
