VapourTech RWC is a Class 4 vapour permeable membrane for commercial roofs and walls. One roll size, 1500 mm by 30 m, covering 45 m², built up from four layers with a high strength polymer mesh through the middle and classified Medium duty to AS/NZS 4200.1:2017.
What vapour permeable is actually buying you
High permeance is the whole point of this membrane. It sheds bulk water from outside while still letting water vapour escape out of the structure, which is what keeps a commercial wall or roof cavity from holding moisture. Permeance is 2.144 µg/N·s with a water vapour transmission rate of 241 g/m² per 24 hours, and it is a water barrier to AS/NZS 4201.4 and an air barrier as well. Condensation in metal roofs explains why letting vapour out matters as much as keeping water in.
Non-reflective, so no air gap to detail
Emittance is 0.9 on both faces, category NN. It does not work by reflection, so it does not need an air gap in front of it and can sit directly against the frame. That makes it simpler to detail than a foil sarking, and unlike foil it is non-conductive.
Strength and fire
Tensile strength is 10.4 kN/m machine direction against a 9.5 minimum, edge tear 512 N against a 45 minimum, and it retains 85% of tensile strength after UV exposure. Flammability classification is Low, 5 or lower, and it complies with AS 3959-2018 for all Bushfire Attack Levels from BAL Low through to Flame Zone. Get independent advice before locking a sarking into a BAL design.
On site
Install to AS 4200.2 with the printed face out, and lap the joints down the slope so water always runs over a joint rather than into it. Suitable for Australian climate zones 2 to 8. Durability drops in industrial or farm buildings where the air carries chemicals, so ask us first if that is the setting.
Full permeance, strength and fire figures are in the table below. For where a membrane sits against the blanket and the sheeting, see Metal roof insulation in Australia.

Fitting notes
Install to AS 4200.2. Run it with the printed face out and lap the joints down the slope so water always runs over a joint, not into it. It is a non-reflective membrane, so it does not need an air gap to work and can sit directly against the frame. Durability drops in industrial or farm buildings where the air carries chemicals, so check with us if that is the setting.
