ECOROOF® is a foil faced glasswool blanket that lays over the purlins before the metal sheeting goes on. One layer does three jobs. It slows the heat coming through the roof, it takes the drumming out of rain on steel, and the foil face keeps warm inside air off the cold underside of the sheet, which is where condensation starts.
Which thickness do I need
Thickness sets the R-value. EcoRoof starts at 55 mm for R1.3 and steps up through 75 mm for R1.8 and 100 mm for R2.3, with a 130 mm roll above that. Thicker is not automatically better. The blanket only gives its rated figure if it recovers full thickness between the sheet and the purlin, so a thick blanket squashed over a purlin can end up performing like a thinner one. If the roof has safety mesh under it, plan for a spacer. Roofing blanket R-values covers how the steps work and what spacer depth does to the result.
Where it sits in the roof
Blanket goes above the purlins and under the sheeting, foil face down. It is not sarking and it is not batts, and the three are not interchangeable. Blanket, sarking or batts sets out which goes where, and Metal roof insulation in Australia shows the full layer order including mesh and spacers.
Ordering
Sold by the roll, 1200 mm wide. A 55 mm roll covers 18 m² and a 130 mm roll covers 12 m². Measure the roof area, divide by the roll coverage, then allow for the 150 mm foil lap on every run and for waste at hips and valleys. How much insulation do I need works through an example.
On site
Lay it with the foil facing to the inside and lap the foil edge over the previous run, then seal the lap. Keep it dry before and during the install and do not compress it. The foil conducts electricity, so keep it clear of wiring.

Fitting notes
Lay the blanket with the foil facing to the inside and lap the 150 mm foil edge over the previous run, then seal the lap. Keep the blanket dry before and during installation, and do not compress it, because a squashed blanket will not deliver its rated R-value. The foil conducts electricity, so keep it clear of wiring.
