Trade Select Wall Wrap Micro-perforated is the vapour permeable version of Ametalin's reflective wall wrap. Stocked in Light, Medium and Heavy Duty, each in 1350 mm and 1500 mm widths and 30 m or 60 m rolls. Coverage runs from 40.5 m² to 90 m² per roll.
Breather, not barrier
Light and Medium Duty are perforated to Class 4, at 1.600 and 1.717 µg/N·s. Heavy Duty is Class 3, at 0.3341 µg/N·s. All three let the wall dry outward instead of holding moisture against the frame. If the design calls for a vapour barrier instead, the solid version is Trade Select Wall Wrap, which is Class 2.
Check the climate zone before picking Heavy Duty
NCC 2022 sets a minimum vapour permeance for a membrane on the outside of the wall insulation. Zones 4 and 5 need 0.143 µg/N·s, so any of the three will do. Zones 6, 7 and 8 need 1.14 µg/N·s, which only Class 4 reaches. Melbourne is zone 6, so there it is Light or Medium Duty. Ametalin do not recommend any of the three for wet tropical zones.
It is not a water barrier
All three duties are classified Non-Water Barrier. Perforating a membrane to let vapour out also lets liquid water through, so these belong behind a masonry leaf or a drained cavity where the outer skin sheds the rain. They are not the wrap for direct fixed cladding.
Choosing the duty
The barrier classifications match apart from the vapour class. The difference shows up before the cladding goes on, while the frame stands wrapped and exposed. Light Duty is 0.09 mm, 10.9 kN/m machine direction with 444 N edge tear. Medium Duty is 0.10 mm and 11.5 kN/m against a higher minimum. Heavy Duty is 0.12 mm, 13.7 kN/m and 565 N edge tear.
Choose the roll length from the elevation
The 60 m rolls halve the number of end joins on a long run, and every join is a line that has to be lapped and taped correctly.
On site
Tape the joins and seal the penetrations with QuickTape, which is the tape Ametalin specify for permeable membranes. Keep the foil face to the cavity so the reflective side can work. The wrap is electrically conductive, so keep it clear of wiring. Full figures are in the table below.

Fitting notes
Install to AS 4200.2 Pliable Building Membranes and Underlays, Part 2, behind a masonry leaf or a drained cavity. Lap and tape the joins with QuickTape and seal around penetrations. Keep the foil face to the cavity so the reflective side can work. The product is electrically conductive, so keep it clear of wiring. Store the rolls undercover in a clean dry place in the pack provided, away from cement, mortar and other alkaline products.
Figures are taken from the Ametalin technical data sheets for Trade Select Wall Wrap LD Micro-perforated (TPM-45764-1, code TSLD-B), MD Micro-perforated (TPM-45764-3, code TSMD-B) and HD Micro-perforated (TPM-45764-4, code TSHD-B). The MD document is linked above. The climate zone minimums are from NCC 2022 Housing Provisions 10.8.1. Ametalin can change specifications without notice, so check the current sheet before specifying on a job.
Common questions
Is this the breather wrap?
Yes. Micro-perforated means vapour permeable: Class 4 in Light Duty (1.600 µg/N·s) and Medium Duty (1.717), Class 3 in Heavy Duty (0.3341). The barrier version is Trade Select Wall Wrap, which is Class 2.
Can I use it behind direct fixed cladding?
No. These wraps are classified Non-Water Barrier, so they need a masonry leaf or a drained cavity in front of them. Behind direct fixed cladding use a water barrier wrap.
Which duty do I need?
Start with the climate zone. In zones 6, 7 and 8, Melbourne included, NCC 2022 asks for at least 1.14 µg/N·s on the outside of the wall insulation, so it is Light or Medium Duty. In zones 4 and 5 all three qualify and the choice comes down to strength while the frame stands exposed: Light Duty 10.9 kN/m, Medium Duty 11.5 kN/m, Heavy Duty 13.7 kN/m with 565 N edge tear.
Why choose a permeable wrap at all?
It lets the wall dry outward. In climate zones where vapour moves from inside to outside for most of the year, a barrier wrap on the cold side is what traps moisture in the frame.
What R-value does it add?
Ametalin declare RT 1.29 winter for a brick veneer wall with the wrap alone, and RT 2.93 winter with an R2.7 batt added. The figures are the same for all three duties. The foil face needs the cavity in front of it to deliver that.
How much wall does a roll cover?
1350 x 30 m covers 40.5 m², 1350 x 60 m covers 81 m², 1500 x 30 m covers 45 m² and 1500 x 60 m covers 90 m², before laps.
Which tape should I use on it?
Trade Select QuickTape. Ametalin specify it for permeable and airtight membranes, because foil tape does not hold reliably on an open faced wrap.
Is it safe around wiring?
No. The foil is electrically conductive. Keep it clear of wiring and follow the electrical safety guidance in the Ametalin data sheet.
