The Stinger HT38 is a hammer tacker for stapling sarking, house wrap, roofing felt and rolled insulation. Steel construction with an anti-slip rubber handle and a quick load magazine that holds 168 staples.

Why a hammer tacker and not a squeeze stapler

You swing it. That means one hand free for the roll, no trigger to squeeze a few thousand times a day, and enough driving force to set a staple into hardwood framing. On a full house wrap, the difference in time and in wrist fatigue is the whole reason this tool exists.

Staples

Stinger recommend their 10 mm A-11 staples for best performance, and the tool accepts 6 mm to 10 mm. The A-11 pattern is the common one, similar to Rapid A-11 and Arrow T-50, so replacements are easy to find.

A note on membranes

A staple is a slit in the membrane held by two thin legs. For wall wrap on an exposed site, or a frame that will stand for weeks before cladding, cap nails hold far better and seal the penetration. Use the tacker where speed matters and the wrap will be covered quickly.

Fitting notes

Swing from the wrist rather than the shoulder and let the weight of the tool set the staple. Keep the magazine loaded, because a part empty magazine is where misfires start. On a building membrane, staple through the framing member and not through open wrap, and tape any staple line that will be exposed to weather.

A hammer tacker sets the staple by the force of the swing rather than a spring, which is why it copes with harder framing better than a squeeze stapler.
