R3.1 Pink Soundbreak Batts are high density glasswool at 110 mm, dyed green for identification once installed. They are an acoustic batt first, sized for a deeper cavity than the 90 mm version, with a solid thermal figure alongside.
What it is actually for
It sits inside the stud or joist cavity and cuts sound transfer between rooms. Theatre rooms, bathrooms, laundries, kitchens, bedrooms and midfloors are the usual jobs. This is about noise from the next room, not noise from outside the building.
The number that matters is not on the batt
Rw and Rw+Ctr belong to the whole wall or floor system, not to the batt on its own. Framing, lining, fixings and gaps all move it. Send us your build-up and we will send back the system report that matches it.
Sizes
Six batts per pack at 1160 mm long: 430 mm wide covering 2.99 m² and 580 mm wide covering 4.04 m². It needs a cavity at least 110 mm deep to sit at full thickness. If your frame is 90 mm, use R2.7 Soundbreak instead rather than compressing this one.

Cut with a sharp knife on a firm surface and friction fit. The batt must touch the frame on all four sides with no gaps at the top, bottom or edges, since a gap is where sound gets through.

Full thickness is what gives you the rated performance. Keep it dry before, during and after fitting.

Common questions
What size cavity do these batts fit?
The batt is 1160 mm long and 110 mm thick, in either 430 mm or 580 mm width. It needs a cavity at least 110 mm deep so it sits at full thickness. Squashing a 110 mm batt into a shallower stud loses the rated performance, so match the batt to the frame rather than compressing it.
Which width do I need, 430 mm or 580 mm?
Australian framing is normally set out at 450 mm or 600 mm centres, and the two batt widths line up with that: 430 mm for 450 mm centres and 580 mm for 600 mm centres. This is general building practice rather than a Fletcher specification, so measure your actual stud or joist spacing before ordering. A batt that is too narrow leaves a gap at the edge, and that is where sound gets through.
How much area does one pack cover?
There are 6 batts in a pack either way. The 1160 x 430 x 110 mm pack covers 2.99 m2 and the 1160 x 580 x 110 mm pack covers 4.04 m2.
What Rw rating will I get if I install these?
The Rw and Rw+Ctr you end up with belong to the whole wall or floor system, not to the batt on its own. The framing, the lining, the fixings and any gaps all change the result. Tell us your build-up and we will send the system report that matches it.
Can R3.1 Pink Soundbreak be used in a bushfire area?
Yes. It is non-combustible to AS 1530.1 and rated for BAL Low through to Flame Zone under AS 3959. Early fire hazard indices tested to AS/NZS 1530.3 are 0 for ignitability, 0 for spread of flame, 0 for heat evolved and 1 for smoke developed.
Is it for walls or for ceilings?
Both, and midfloors as well. It is a high density glasswool batt at 24 to 32 kg per cubic metre for acoustic wall, ceiling and midfloor use. Typical jobs are theatre rooms, bathrooms, laundries, kitchens, bedrooms and midfloors.
Will it hold moisture or grow mould?
Moisture absorption is under 0.2% by volume tested to ASTM C1104, and it passed ASTM C1338-14 fungi resistance with no growth. It still has to be kept dry before, during and after fitting, because wet glasswool will not perform as rated.
