R2.7 Pink Soundbreak Batts are high density glasswool at 90 mm, dyed green so you can see at a glance which cavities have been done. They are built for acoustic work in walls, ceilings and midfloors, and they carry a useful thermal figure at the same time.

What it is actually for

The batt sits inside the stud or joist cavity and cuts sound transfer between rooms. Typical jobs are theatre rooms, bathrooms, laundries, kitchens, bedrooms and midfloors, anywhere the noise you want to stop is coming from the other side of the wall rather than from outside the house.

The number that matters is not on the batt

The Rw and Rw+Ctr you end up with belong to the whole wall or floor system, not to the batt alone. Framing, lining, fixings and any gaps all change it. Tell us your build-up and we will send the system report that matches it.

Sizes

Eight batts per pack at 1160 mm long: 430 mm wide covering 3.99 m² and 580 mm wide covering 5.38 m². Nominal density is 24 to 32 kg/m³. For a thicker cavity, R3.1 Soundbreak is the 110 mm version.

On site

Cut with a sharp knife on a firm surface and friction fit between the studs or joists. The batt has to touch the frame on all four sides with no gaps, because a gap is where sound gets through. Do not squash it in.

Non-combustible to AS 1530.1 and rated BAL Low through to Flame Zone. Full figures are in the table below.

Compliance applies when the product is correctly specified and installed.

Fitting notes

Cut with a sharp knife on a firm surface and friction fit between the studs or joists. The batt should touch the frame on all four sides with no gaps at the top, bottom or edges, since a gap is where sound gets through. Do not squash it in. Full thickness is what gives you the rated performance. Keep it dry before, during and after fitting.
