R3.5 Bradford Polymax is a polyester ceiling batt at one of the most commonly specified residential ceiling values. Non-irritant, low allergen, and made from up to 50% recycled material.
The practical case for polyester
At R3.5 you are usually insulating a whole house ceiling, which is a lot of batts to handle. Polyester does not itch, does not need the full covered-up kit to install, and is light to carry up through a manhole. That is the real reason it gets chosen over glasswool at this size of job, rather than any difference in thermal performance. Where the specification calls for a non-combustible material, use the glasswool Bradford Gold instead.
Sizes
Eight batts per pack at 1160 mm long. The 430 mm width covers 3.99 m² and the 580 mm covers 5.38 m². Work off the square metre figure rather than the pack count when you estimate. In Victoria, ceiling insulation work may attract a discount under the Victorian Energy Upgrades program.

Friction fit between the joists, butt the ends, no gaps, no compression. Keep the clearances downlights and flues require.
