R2.5 Bradford Polymax is a 140 mm ceiling batt made from 100% thermally bonded polyester rather than glasswool. No itch, low allergen, and nothing that needs gloves and long sleeves to handle.
Polymax or Gold
They do the same thermal job at the same R-value. The difference is the material. Polymax is polyester, non-irritant, lightweight and made from up to 50% recycled content with no manufacturing waste, which is why it is the usual pick for owner-installers, for ceilings that will be accessed often, and for anyone sensitive to glasswool. Bradford Gold is the glasswool equivalent and is the one quoted as non-combustible, so where the job specifically calls for a non-combustible material, use the glasswool.
Sizes
Eight batts per pack, 1160 mm long. The 430 mm width covers 3.99 m² and the 580 mm covers 5.38 m². Ceiling joists are normally set out at 450 mm or 600 mm centres and the widths follow that, but measure yours before ordering.
On site
Cuts cleanly and friction fits between the joists. Butt the ends and leave no gaps. Do not compress it into a shallower space, because bulk insulation only delivers its rated R-value at full thickness. Keep whatever clearance the downlights and flues in that ceiling require.
