R2.5 Bradford Gold is a non-combustible glasswool ceiling batt, 140 mm thick. It is the entry point of the Gold ceiling range, and the one to reach for when the ceiling depth is tight or when R2.5 is genuinely all the job calls for.
Which width
Two options, both 1160 mm long and 16 batts to a pack: 430 mm wide covering 7.98 m², and 580 mm wide covering 10.77 m². Australian ceiling framing is normally set out at 450 mm or 600 mm centres, and the two batt widths follow that convention. Measure your actual joist spacing before ordering rather than assuming, because a batt that is too narrow leaves a gap at every joist.
Is R2.5 enough
That depends on where the house is and what the rest of the build-up does. There is no single national ceiling R-value. R-value by Australian climate zone covers how the target gets set and what else changes it. If you have the ceiling depth, stepping up to R3.0 at 165 mm or R3.5 at 185 mm is usually inexpensive performance for the same labour.
On site
Friction fit between the joists and butt the ends so there are no gaps, since a gap is worth more lost performance than most people expect. Do not compress the batt to make it fit a shallower space, because a bulk insulation batt only delivers its rated R-value at full thickness. Keep the clearances any downlights or flues in the ceiling require.
Thermal rating is declared to AS/NZS 4859.1 by the manufacturer. Sizes, coverage and CSR product codes are in the table below. In Victoria, ceiling insulation may qualify for a discount under the Victorian Energy Upgrades program.
