Kingspan Kooltherm K10 G2 Soffit Board is a rigid thermoset phenolic board with a reflective aluminium foil lower facing, for insulating concrete soffits and ceilings. CodeMark certified for NCC compliance.

Thermal performance

Declared thermal conductivity at 23 °C is 0.022 W/m·K for 45 mm and thicker, and 0.023 W/m·K from 25 to 44 mm. The range runs from 25 mm at R1.10 to 100 mm at R4.60, all in 2400 x 1200 mm boards. These are board R-values. Kingspan's data sheet gives Total R-values for typical concrete roof and floor constructions.

Fire and physical properties

NCC Group 2 to AS 5637.1, spread of flame index 0, smoke development 3 or lower, and FM 4880 approval for thicknesses 25 to 119 mm. The board is fibre-free. Compressive stress averages over 100 kPa at 10% compression, and water vapour transmission is over 35 MN·s/g. The warranty is 10 years for residential and commercial work, subject to the full Kooltherm terms.

Packs and supply

Boards are sold in Kingspan's full packs, from 12 at 25 mm down to 3 at 90 and 100 mm, and each option shows the boards and m² per pack. Thicknesses from 25 to 80 mm are stocked, while the 90 and 100 mm boards are made to order and take about 10 business days.

On site

Kingspan specify at least 11 fasteners per board, with 96 mm silver tape over every joint. For a white finish instead of silver foil, choose the Kooltherm K10 G2W White Soffit Board. Full figures are in the table below.

Fitting notes

Fix the boards to the underside of the concrete slab with the foil face down. Kingspan specify at least 11 insulation fasteners per 2400 x 1200 mm board, with heads of at least 35 mm diameter: four along each long edge, 50 to 150 mm in from the edge, and three along the middle. Joints can be staggered or squared, and every joint is taped with 96 mm wide silver Kingspan Insulation Tape. Fit the board tight around fire collars but leave the face of the collar uncovered. Cut with a fine toothed saw, or score with a sharp knife and snap over a straight edge, and do not use a board that has got wet. The foil conducts electricity, so keep it clear of un-insulated cables and fittings. For a white finish instead of silver foil, look at the K10 G2W White version.

Common questions

Can I buy a single board?

No. Kooltherm boards are sold in Kingspan's full packs, and each thickness option is one pack of 2400 x 1200 mm boards. A pack runs from 12 boards (34.56 m²) at 25 mm down to 3 boards (8.64 m²) at 90 mm and 100 mm.

Which thicknesses are stocked?

The eight thicknesses from 25 mm to 80 mm are stocked. The 90 mm and 100 mm boards are made to order and take about 10 business days.

What R-value does the board give?

Kingspan declare R1.10 at 25 mm, R2.30 at 50 mm, R3.65 at 80 mm and R4.60 at 100 mm, at 23 °C. Those figures are for the board alone. Kingspan's data sheet gives Total R-values for the building element in typical concrete roof and floor constructions.

What is its fire classification?

It is an NCC Group 2 material to AS 5637.1:2015, with a spread of flame index of 0 and smoke development of 3 or lower. FM 4880 approval covers thicknesses 25 to 119 mm, for ceiling and soffit installation only with non-combustible walls.
