Kooltherm K10 G2 is a rigid thermoset phenolic soffit board with a reflective aluminium foil lower facing, for insulating concrete soffits and ceilings. CodeMark certified for NCC compliance.
Why phenolic when the space is tight
Thermal conductivity is 0.022 W/m·K at 45 mm and thicker, which is among the lowest of any board on the market. In practice that means it reaches a given R-value in noticeably less thickness than most alternatives, and in a carpark or a soffit where headroom is the constraint that is the entire argument. The range runs from 25 mm at R1.10 up to 100 mm at R4.60, all in 2400 x 1200 mm boards.
Fire and certification
NCC Group 2 to AS 5637.1, spread of flame index 0, smoke development 3 or lower, and FM 4880 approval for thicknesses 25 to 119 mm. The board is fibre-free.
Structural and moisture
Compressive stress averages over 100 kPa at 10% compression, and water vapour transmission is over 35 MN·s/g. Backed by a 10 year warranty for residential and commercial work, subject to the full Kooltherm terms.
Where the soffit is exposed to view, the K10W white faced version gives a finished appearance. Full thickness, R-value and compliance figures are in the table below.

Phenolic gives you more R-value per millimetre than almost anything else on the market, which is the whole reason to use it where headroom is tight.

The FM approval covers ceiling and soffit installation only, with non-combustible walls. Early fire hazard properties tested to AS 1530.3.

Fitting notes
Fixed to the underside of a concrete slab with the foil face down, so it doubles as the finished soffit on a car park or plant room. Set the boards out so joints land on a fixing and butt them tight, because an open joint is both a thermal gap and an eyesore on exposed work. Cut with a fine tooth saw and keep the boards dry on site. If you need a white finish instead of silver foil, look at the K10 G2W version.
