Bradford Polyair Performa is a foil faced closed cell foam roll, 4 mm or 8 mm thick, in an extra heavy duty commercial grade. It works by reflection rather than by thickness, which makes it a different tool from a glasswool blanket rather than a cheaper version of one.

How reflective insulation actually works

Bradford quotes it as reflecting up to 95% of radiant heat. The catch is the air gap. A reflective face pressed hard against another surface reflects almost nothing, because the heat simply conducts across the contact. It needs a small air gap in front of the foil to do its job, so how it is installed decides how much you get out of it. Blanket, sarking or batts sets out where each type belongs and why a foil product on its own rarely satisfies a bulk R-value requirement.

Weather barrier

Taped and sealed, it also helps block rain, dust and draughts during construction. The extra heavy duty grade is there so it survives frequent handling and knocks on a commercial site.

Sizes

Five rolls, all 1350 mm wide. In 4 mm there is a 22.25 m roll covering 30.03 m², a version of the same roll with a 150 mm lap, and a 40 m roll covering 54 m². In 8 mm there is a 22.25 m roll covering 30 m² and a 30 m roll covering 40.5 m². If you are lapping and taping, allow for the overlap when you work out roll count.
