Bradford Ashgrid is a modular roof spacer system for commercial and industrial metal roofing, supplied in kits by bracket height.
What a spacer system is actually for
It holds the roof sheet up off the purlin so the insulation blanket underneath keeps its full design thickness across the support. Insulation crushed at every purlin is where a large share of the heat crosses a commercial metal roof, and no increase in blanket thickness fixes a compression problem. The bracket height is chosen from the blanket, which is why the kits are listed by height.
Check the roof first
Bradford sets a maximum roof pitch of 10 degrees for Ashgrid, and its load table is only valid up to that pitch. On anything steeper, shed or house, it falls outside Bradford's technical statement. It is not for use under tiled roofs or on walls either. In a harsh environment, such as a livestock building, an indoor aquatic centre or a fertiliser store, Bradford's written approval is needed first. For a metal roof over 10 degrees, look at Roof Razor, which Fletcher rates for pitches up to 30 degrees.
Cyclonic and non-cyclonic kits
Every height comes in two kits. The non-cyclonic kit has two brackets per 1200 mm bar and the cyclonic kit has four. Cyclonic jobs must use the cyclonic kit, with a 50 x 1 mm galvanised mild steel strap over the ridge line at every pitch. The non-cyclonic kit needs the same strap on roofs pitched between 5 and 10 degrees.
Built for speed on a big roof
Modules come with screws already fitted in the brackets, and Safe-Loc spigots align the runs and carry load continuously from module to module. On a large roof, straight stable runs and fewer loose fasteners is the difference between a system that goes down quickly and one that fights you.
Picking the height and ordering
Match the height to the blanket thickness rather than the roof pitch. Bradford lists the 60 mm for 80 mm blanket, the 80 mm for 100 and 110 mm, the 110 mm for 130 mm, the 120 mm for 140 and 145 mm, and the 150 mm for 175 mm. Each carton holds 12 bars of 1200 mm, which is 14.4 lineal metres. All options and CSR product codes are in the table below.
