Trade Select Reinforced Ducting Tape is an aluminium foil tape with a polyethylene scrim behind it, so it tears in a straight line by hand but will not stretch or split under load. 0.178 mm thick, 48 mm and 72 mm rolls, both 50 m.
Where the scrim earns its place
Plain foil tape stretches. On a reflective foam board join, a duct seam or anywhere the two surfaces move against each other, that stretch turns into a wrinkle and then a gap. The scrim holds elongation to 25% against the 100% of an unreinforced foil tape, and lifts tensile strength to 100 N/25 mm.
Heat and fire
Service range is minus 30 to plus 120 degrees, so it handles hot duct runs and roof space temperatures that soften ordinary tapes. Early fire hazard indices are 0, 0, 0 and 1 to AS/NZS 1530.3-1999. It is UV resistant and vapour sealing.
Which width
48 mm is the general purpose size for membrane laps and small duct seams. 72 mm is the one for reflective foam board joins such as ThermalBreak 7 and for larger ductwork, where the extra width gives a wider bond either side of the join.
On site
The surface has to be clean, dry and oil free. Apply between 10 and 40 degrees and press the tape down with a plastic squeegee. Full figures are in the table below.

Fitting notes
The surface must be clean, dry and free of oil and other contaminants. Apply between 10 and 40 degrees and press the tape down with a plastic squeegee so it follows every contour. Hand tearable. Store in a clean dry place out of direct sunlight.

Common questions
What does reinforced actually change?
Elongation drops from 100% on a plain foil tape to 25%. The tape does not stretch as you pull it off the roll, so the join stays flat instead of wrinkling open later.
Which width should I buy?
48 mm for membrane laps and small duct seams. 72 mm for reflective foam board joins and larger ductwork, where you want a wider bond either side of the join.
Is it fire tested?
Early fire hazard indices are 0, 0, 0 and 1 to AS/NZS 1530.3-1999. That is a test result for the tape, not a claim about the system it is used in.
How hot can it get?
Plus 120 degrees in service, which is 20 degrees more than the plain Sarking Tape. That is the reason to choose it for hot duct runs.
Can I use it on a vapour permeable membrane?
For permeable and airtight membranes Ametalin recommend QuickTape. This one is designed for foil faced products and ductwork.
Is it hand tearable?
Yes, and the scrim makes it tear straight rather than diagonally across the roll.
