Trade Select FireSark is a non-combustible roof sarking and wall wrap built for bushfire areas. E-glass fabric bonded to a 97% reflective aluminium foil with a fire resistant adhesive, 1350 mm x 30 m covering 40.5 m².
Non-combustible, not just fire retardant
Both the fibreglass fabric and the aluminium foil are not deemed combustible, flammability index is 1, and ignitability, spread of flame and heat evolved indices are all 0 with smoke developed at 2. It complies with AS 3959-2018 for all Bushfire Attack Levels including Flame Zone, and meets the Deemed-to-Satisfy provisions for non-combustible construction. On a BAL rated job that combination is the reason to specify it.
Very strong for a membrane
Tensile strength is 58 kN/m in the machine direction against a 13.0 minimum, and 26 kN/m lateral against a 10.5 minimum. Extra Heavy duty to AS/NZS 4200.1:2017. That is a large margin, and it matters on a site where the sarking may sit exposed before cladding.
Barrier and reflective performance
Class 2 vapour barrier at 0.003 µg/N·s, water barrier and air barrier. The foil face is 97% reflective with an emittance of 0.03, so it needs an air gap in front of it to contribute. It is electrically conductive, so keep it clear of wiring.

This is the reason to choose it. The glass fabric structure blocks embers, which is what actually starts most house fires in a bushfire. Get independent advice on sarking selection before locking it into a BAL design.

The foil face adds R-value only when it looks into an air cavity. Facing it into a solid layer wastes it.

Fitting notes
Install to AS 4200.2 with the foil face looking into an air cavity, which is where the reflective R-value comes from. Lap and seal the joints properly, because an ember only needs one open gap. At Extra Heavy duty it takes site handling well and can be walked on during roofing within the usual safe work rules. The foil conducts electricity, so keep it away from wiring.
