R3.5 Pink Ceiling Batts are 175 mm FBS-1 bio-soluble glasswool batts from Fletcher, Australian made using up to 80% recycled content. R3.5 is one of the most commonly specified ceiling values in Australian housing.
Fire and bushfire
Non-combustible to AS/NZS 1530.1, with ignitability, spread of flame and heat evolved indices all at 0 and smoke developed at 0 to 1. Rated for bushfire areas from BAL Low through to Flame Zone under AS 3959, and it meets NCC 2022 clause C2D10(1) for non-combustibility. If the site has a BAL rating, this is a batt that does not restrict you.
It is also an acoustic batt
NRC is 1.10 with an airflow resistance of 2700 Rayls/m, which is genuine absorption rather than a token figure. In a ceiling that means less noise carrying between the roof space and the rooms below, and less reverberation in large open rooms.
Sizes
Two widths at 1160 mm long. The 430 mm comes 16 to a pack covering 7.98 m², the 580 mm comes 10 to a pack covering 6.73 m². Note the wider batt covers less per pack, not more, so estimate on the square metre figure.
On site
Cuts with a knife and friction fits between the joists, so it holds without fixings. Let the batts recover to full loft before installing and do not compress them into the space. Keep them dry, and keep the clearances downlights and flues require.
