R2.5HD Pink Wall Batts are high density FBS-1 bio-soluble glasswool at 90 mm. The HD is the point: it reaches R2.5 in a standard 90 mm cavity, which a normal density batt at that thickness cannot do.

Why density is the lever in a wall

You can add depth to a ceiling. You cannot add depth to a wall without changing the frame. So when an assessment asks for more than R2.0 out of a 90 mm stud, the answer is a denser batt rather than a thicker one. That is exactly what this is.

Sizes

Twelve batts per pack at 1160 mm long: 430 mm wide covering 5.99 m² and 580 mm wide covering 8.07 m². Coverage per pack is roughly half the standard R2.0 Pink pack, so budget for about twice the packs over the same wall area.

Fire and bushfire

Non-combustible to AS 1530.1, rated BAL Low through to Flame Zone under AS 3959, and it meets NCC 2022 clause C2D10(1).

On site

Friction fits between studs. Let the batts recover to full thickness before installing and do not compress them, because a high density batt squashed further gives up the very thing you paid for.

Compliance

Thermal rating Complies with AS/NZS 4859.1
NCC 2022 AS/NZS 4859.1 per Volume 1 J4D3(1) and ABCB Housing Provisions 3.12.2(1)
NCC 2022 non-combustibility Non-combustible per AS/NZS 1530.1, meets clause C2D10(1)

Compliance applies when the product is correctly specified and installed.

Fitting notes

Higher density than a standard wall batt, so it reaches R2.5 in a 90 mm cavity. Friction fits between studs. Let the batts recover to full thickness before installing and do not compress them, because a squashed batt delivers less than its rated R-value.

Common questions

What sizes are stocked and how much does each one cover?

2 options are stocked, running from 1160 x 430 x 90 mm to 1160 x 580 x 90 mm. The table above lists each one with the coverage or quantity you get.

What thermal performance does it have?

Material R-value: R2.5 m²K/W. Maximum service temperature: 340 °C (ASTM C411/C447). Thermal rating: Complies with AS/NZS 4859.1.

How does it perform in a fire?

Combustibility: Non-combustible (AS1530.1). Ignitability index: 0. Spread of flame index: 0. Heat evolved index: 0. Smoke developed index: 0 to 1. NCC 2022 non-combustibility: Non-combustible per AS/NZS 1530.1, meets clause C2D10(1).

Can it be used in a bushfire area?

Bushfire areas: BAL Low through to Flame Zone (AS3959).

How does it handle moisture?

Moisture absorption: Under 0.2% by volume. Fungi resistance: Pass, no growth (ASTM C1338-14).

Does it meet Australian standards?

Certification: CodeMark certified. NCC 2022: AS/NZS 4859.1 per Volume 1 J4D3(1) and ABCB Housing Provisions 3.12.2(1).

What is it made of?

Composition: FBS-1 bio-soluble glasswool, high density.

How is it installed?

Higher density than a standard wall batt, so it reaches R2.5 in a 90 mm cavity. Friction fits between studs. Let the batts recover to full thickness before installing and do not compress them, because a squashed batt delivers less than its rated R-value.
