Pink Batts Wall R2.0 HD is Fletcher Insulation's 70 mm glasswool wall batt, rated R2.0 for the thermal and acoustic insulation of residential walls. Fletcher's standard batt at 70 mm is R1.5, so the HD grade gets R2.0 out of the same thickness.
Matching the batt to the frame
At 70 mm it suits a 70 mm stud wall, and the two widths here are the ones Fletcher lists for timber frames. Fletcher's conditions: fit it in the right stud width and depth, keep it dry, and install it without compression to keep its claimed R-value. For 90 mm studs, see the standard R2.0 batt or the R2.5 HD.
Where it does not belong
Fletcher says glasswool is not suitable for double brick cavity walls. The batt is not a water or vapour barrier and must never be exposed to weather. On external walls, Fletcher's guide puts Sisalation wall wrap such as Vapawrap across the outside of the frame first, and the batts must not touch the external facade.
Packs and coverage
Each pack holds 12 batts. A 430 mm pack is 5.99 m² of batt and a 580 mm pack 8.07 m². The coverage figures Fletcher prints, 6.8 m² and 8.96 m², allow for the framing.
Fire and compliance
Non-combustible to AS 1530.1, with BAL compliance from Low to FZ under AS 3959. It complies with AS/NZS 4859.1 as referenced in NCC 2022 and carries CodeMark certificate CM 30006. Full figures are in the table below.

Fitting notes
Install to AS 3999. On external walls, fix Sisalation wall wrap across the outside face of the frame first, then fit the batts from inside. Check the stud spacing, then friction fit each batt between the studs with no gaps at studs, noggings or joints. The batts must fit snugly, not protrude past the studs, and must not touch the external facade or moisture will get in. In steel frames, push the batt into the open side of the channel. If you string the wall, run the twine top to bottom, parallel with the studs, at no more than 300 mm spacing. Fit the batts dry and uncompressed, let them fully recover first, and cut with a sharp knife and straight edge rather than a power tool. Fill small gaps with single offcuts, not several small pieces. In multi-storey work, wall insulation of the same or greater R-value runs from the ceiling to the adjacent floor.
Figures are taken from the Fletcher Insulation technical data sheet Pink Batts: Wall, RTDS7 Revision 12, 1 February 2025. Fitting guidance is from Fletcher's Pink Wall and Ceiling Batts installation guide IG06 Revision 5 (30 September 2024), frame type from the Pink Batts trade brochure BR025 Revision 2 (19 March 2026), the framing allowance in coverage from the Pink Batts consumer guide BR040 Revision 2 (7 May 2026) and the CodeMark number from Fletcher's Pink Batts Wall product page. The manufacturer document is linked above. Fletcher Insulation can change specifications without notice, so check the current sheet before specifying on a job.
Common questions
What stud depth is R2.0 HD for?
The batt is 70 mm thick, so it suits a 70 mm stud wall. Fletcher says it must go in the right stud width and depth and be installed without compression to keep its claimed R-value. For 90 mm studs, Fletcher makes R2.0 and R2.5 HD batts in that thickness.
How is it different from the standard R2.0 wall batt?
Same R-value, less depth. The standard Pink Batts Wall R2.0 is 90 mm thick with 24 batts per pack, while R2.0 HD reaches R2.0 at 70 mm with 12 batts per pack. Fletcher's standard batt at 70 mm is R1.5.
How many packs do I need?
Each pack holds 12 batts: 5.99 m² of batt in the 430 mm width and 8.07 m² in the 580 mm width. Fletcher rates the coverage at 6.8 m² and 8.96 m² of wall because the figure allows for framing, and its install guide divides the wall area by coverage per pack.
Which width suits my frame?
Check the centre to centre distance between the studs first. Fletcher lists the 430 and 580 mm widths for timber frames, sized to friction fit between standard stud spacings without gaps.
Can I use it in a steel frame?
Fletcher lists these two widths for timber frames. Its steel frame size for R2.0 HD is 600 x 1200 mm (code 4006281), which is not sold on this page. In metal framing the batt goes into the open side of the channel.
Do I still need wall wrap, and can it go in a double brick wall?
On external walls, yes. The batt cannot be used as a water or vapour barrier, and Fletcher's guide has Sisalation wall wrap fixed across the outside of the frame before the batts go in, with the batts kept off the external facade. Fletcher says glasswool insulation is not suitable for double brick cavity walls.
How does it rate for fire and bushfire areas?
Fletcher classes it as non-combustible to AS 1530.1, with early fire hazard indices of 0 for ignitability, spread of flame and heat evolved, and 0 to 1 for smoke developed. The data sheet lists BAL compliance from Low to FZ under AS 3959.
Is it an acoustic batt?
Fletcher describes Pink Batts Wall as thermal and acoustic insulation for residential walls. For the 70 mm R2.0 HD it publishes an airflow resistance of 11750 Rayls/m but no sound absorption figures, so treat any sound rating as belonging to the whole wall system.
