Insulshed 50 is an Australian made closed cell foam blanket with reflective foil facings, made specifically for shed roofs and walls.

Read this before ordering

Insulshed is designed for Class 10a buildings only, which means sheds, garages and similar non-habitable structures. It is not for habitable buildings, and Kingspan makes a different AIR-CELL product for those. If the building is or will become living space, this is the wrong product regardless of price, so check the building class first.

What it does in a shed

A bare metal shed roof radiates heat straight down. The reflective face, quoted at 97% reflectance with an emittance of 0.03, is aimed exactly at that, and it needs an air gap in front of it to work. The foam core also takes the drumming out of rain on the sheeting.

Rolls

Both 1350 mm wide at 5 mm thick: 22.25 m covering 30 m² at 6.9 kg, and 33.33 m covering 45 m² at 10.4 kg.

Handling limits

Heat above 105 °C damages it, so keep sparks and flame from blow torches and welders away from it during the build. Flammability index 5 or lower. It is fibre-free, non-allergenic, non-irritant, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal, and it is re-usable if removed with care.

The performance comes from the reflective air space above it, not from the 5 mm of foam on its own, so the roof build-up has to leave that gap.

Fitting notes

Runs over the purlins under the roof sheet on a typical 5 degree shed roof, with the reflective air space above the ceiling side. Fit it neatly around doors, windows and any penetrations and tape where needed so air does not leak through. When taping, use a plastic squeegee or blade to get real pressure on the tape, and make sure the surface is dry and free of dust, oil or grease first. Leave at least 100 mm clear around flues and light fittings. Install to AS 3999:2015 and AS/NZS 4200.2:2017.
