AIR-CELL Permishield XV 70 is an Australian made closed cell foam wall insulation and sarking, and unusually for a foil product it is vapour permeable. CodeMark certified for NCC compliance.
Reflective and breathable
Most foil faced products are vapour barriers. This one is Class 3 vapour permeable at 0.300 µg/N·s, while still being a water barrier to AS/NZS 4201.4. That combination is the reason to specify it: the wall gets a reflective surface and keeps the ability to dry outward, instead of trading one for the other.
System figures
Material R-value is R0.20. In a reverse brick veneer wall Kingspan quotes RT 1.9 for heat flowing in and RT 1.8 for heat flowing out. Reflectance is 97% on the reflective face and 88% on the anti-glare face.
Roll and handling
1350 mm x 22.25 m covering 30 m² at 7.2 mm, weighing 9.15 kg. Burst strength 0.9 kN, maximum span 2.4 m, flammability index 5 or lower. Fibre-free, non-allergenic, non-irritant, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal, and rodent and insect resistant.

R0.20 is the figure the NCC asks for as a thermal break on steel framing, which is why this one carries a 7.2 mm core rather than a thinner one.

Three jobs in one roll: insulation, thermal break and vapour permeable sarking. Class 3 permeance lets the wall dry outwards, which is what the newer condensation provisions are aiming at.

Fitting notes
On a reverse brick veneer wall it goes on the 20 mm batten, rolled out horizontally and fixed, then counter battens and cladding over the top. Cut it carefully around openings so it abuts the frames neatly, butt join the sheets and tape with 48 mm reinforced foil tape. On a steel frame wall use Spacer Biscuits to hold the air gap, because the reflective face needs that gap to give you the R-value. Kingspan asks for a project specific warranty to be submitted, so ask us for one on a commercial job.
