Trade Select Double Sided Fixing Tape holds a membrane to a steel stud without a fixing through it. 0.150 mm double sided acrylic on a PET carrier, 38 mm wide, 50 m roll, 8 rolls to a carton.
Why not just screw it on
Every fastener through a wrap is a hole in the air barrier and a thermal bridge through the frame. On a steel frame that matters twice over. A vertical strip of this tape from top plate to bottom plate holds the membrane while the cladding goes on, and the seal it makes is continuous rather than a line of punctures.
Bonds to steel
Adhesion to steel is 20 N/25 mm. Steel and treated timber are low surface energy materials, which is where cheap double sided tapes fail, and the acrylic adhesive here is chosen for exactly that. It conforms to irregular surfaces and holds from minus 30 to plus 121 degrees.
How it is used
Run a continuous vertical strip down the centre of the stud from top plate to bottom plate, then bring the membrane onto it. Surfaces must be clean, dry and free of dust and oil, because poor preparation and moisture are what kill the bond.
On site
Hand tearable, good UV and temperature resistance. Full figures and the wall framing sequence are in the table below and in the Ametalin sheet.

Fitting notes
Make sure surfaces are clean, dry and free from dust, oil and contaminants, because poor preparation and moisture reduce adhesion. Apply a continuous vertical strip centrally on the stud, running from top plate to bottom plate, then bring the membrane onto the tape. Apply between 10 and 40 degrees. Store in a clean dry place out of direct sunlight.

Common questions
Can it hold a wall wrap on its own?
It is designed to fix the membrane to the framing while the cladding goes on, with a continuous strip down each stud. Follow the cladding fixing schedule as normal, and on an exposed site check the wind load with the designer.
Why use tape instead of fasteners on a steel frame?
Every fastener through a membrane is a hole in the air barrier. A continuous tape line seals as it fixes, and it avoids adding punctures to a steel stud.
Will it stick to galvanised steel?
Adhesion to steel is 20 N/25 mm and the adhesive is chosen for low surface energy substrates. The steel still has to be clean, dry and free of oil.
How is it applied?
A continuous vertical strip centred on the stud from top plate to bottom plate, then the membrane is brought onto it. The full sequence is in the Ametalin sheet.
How much stud does one roll cover?
50 m per roll. At a 2.4 m wall height that is about 20 studs, so allow roughly one roll per 8 to 9 m of wall at 450 mm centres.
Can I use it in a hot roof space?
Maximum service temperature is plus 121 degrees, which covers Australian roof space conditions.
