R2.5 Bradford Optimo is a dense glasswool batt made specifically for suspended timber floors, at 90 mm.
Sized narrower on purpose
The two widths are 415 mm and 565 mm rather than the 430 and 580 of a wall batt. Floor joists are set out at the same nominal centres, but the batt has to sit up between them and stay there, so the fit is tuned differently. Eight batts per pack, covering 3.85 m² and 5.24 m² respectively.
What it does under a floor
Three things. It cuts heat loss down through the floor. It limits cold air moving up from the sub-floor, which is what people actually feel as a cold floor. And the density gives some acoustic benefit through the floor structure.
It needs holding up
A floor batt is working against gravity, unlike a wall or ceiling batt. Friction fit gets it in place, but Optimo Saddles or Straps are what keep it there over time. Order the fixings with the batts rather than discovering the need later, and see Optimo sub-floor fixings.
