Pyrotek Reapor is a sound absorbing panel made from recycled glass granules, 50 mm thick at 625 x 625 mm, 5.3 kg per panel. It looks like light grey stone and is completely fibre free.

Absorption without fibres

NRC is 0.95 at 50 mm, which is high absorption by any measure. The panel is highly porous, so sound is absorbed both between the granules and inside them. What makes it unusual is that it achieves that without loose fibres, so it can go where a fibrous absorber cannot: food handling areas, clean environments, anywhere the surface will be touched or hosed.

Non-combustible, and structural enough to stand up

Non-combustible to AS 1530.1 and ISO 1182, NCC Group 1, with ignitability, spread of flame and heat evolved all 0 and smoke developed 1. Compressive strength is 1.46 N/mm² and flexural strength 0.53 N/mm², so it holds its own shape rather than needing a frame to survive.

Outdoors too

It is rated for roadside barrier absorption at DLα 11 dB, Category A3 to EN 1793-1, which is an outdoor application. Weather does not break it down the way it does a fibrous panel.

Air quality

VOC emission rate 0.026 mg/m² per hour and formaldehyde under 0.005 mg/m² per hour, classified low VOC emitting under the Australian NPI, EU and US EPA schemes. It is non-conductive and has a thermal conductivity of 0.077 W/m·K.

Fitting notes

Bonded to the wall or ceiling with the adhesives Pyrotek nominates in their installation guide. It cuts, drills and routs with ordinary woodworking tools, so working around a downpipe or a light fitting is straightforward. Outdoors it drains and dries in the sun, though salts can bloom on the face afterwards. That efflorescence is cosmetic, it does not affect absorption, and commercial cleaners take it off. Panels can be painted or rendered afterwards with a water based coating meant for ceramic, concrete or masonry, but once coated the tested properties no longer strictly apply, so confirm the finish with your acoustic and fire engineers first.
