What a foil insulation does
It works by reflection rather than by thickness. The foil face turns back radiant heat, and it needs an air gap in front of it to do that. Pressed flat against another surface a foil reflects very little, because the heat conducts straight across the contact instead. That makes the installation detail as important as the product choice, and it is the most common reason a foil product underperforms on site.
