Roof Razor is a galvanised steel spacer that sits on the purlin and holds the roof sheet clear of it, so the blanket underneath keeps its full thickness right across the support. It is 1200 mm long, which matches a standard blanket width, and comes pre-loaded with its fasteners.

Why a spacer changes the numbers

Insulation crushed flat at the purlin is where most of the heat crosses a metal roof. A blanket rated at R2.5 that gets squeezed to nothing every 1200 mm is not delivering R2.5 across the roof, and no amount of extra thickness fixes that on its own. The spacer keeps the blanket at full loft over the support, which is the whole point of specifying one. Picking the height

Choose from the blanket you are using, not from the roof pitch. The 60 mm spacer suits 75 to 80 mm blanket, the 85 mm suits 100 to 120 mm blanket, and the 115 mm is for thicker build-ups. Six pieces per pack gives 7.2 lineal metres.

Before you order

Check the purlin. The standard spacer needs a minimum 1.2 BMT purlin with a full 50 mm flat surface, because a narrower flange will not take the fixing pattern. Standard version covers wind regions A and B, and a cyclonic version is made for regions C and D. If you are fixing to timber battens, order the version without pre-loaded screws.

The spacer itself does not add fuel load. Fire performance of the roof comes from the blanket and the sheet.

Screw the spacer down onto the purlin through the pre-loaded fasteners, run the blanket over the top, then fix the roof sheet to the spacer. Check that the purlin gives you a full 50 mm flat surface before you start, because a narrower flange will not take the fixing pattern. Pick the height from the blanket you are using, not from the roof pitch: 60 mm for 75 to 80 mm blanket and 85 mm for 100 to 120 mm blanket.
